Commencement

Join graduates and their families in a ceremony celebration and reception to honor the completion of their advanced degrees from Northeastern Seminary on Friday, May 17, 2019. This year graduates will earn degrees from five programs: Doctor of Ministry, Master of Divinity, and Master of Arts Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Transformational Leadership, Master of Arts in Theology and Social Justice. Seminary graduates serve in a wide range of denominations and traditions such as African Methodist Episcopal, Christian Methodist Episcopal, Church of God in Christ, Free Methodist, Independent, Missionary Baptist, Presbyterian, United Methodist, and Wesleyan. Their plans for service include placements in church ministry, chaplaincy settings, new ministries, and social work as well as lay leadership roles.

Commencement Speaker

Bishop Dennis V. ProctorBishop Dennis V. Proctor is an African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church Bishop presiding over the North Eastern Episcopal District overseeing the New York, New Jersey, New England, Bahamas Islands, and London-Midland Conferences. Bishop Proctor holds the following degrees: D.Min., from United Theological Seminary as a Samuel D. Proctor/Otis Moss Fellow; J.D., from The Ohio State University College of Law; CPE, from Western Reserve Psychiatric Habilitation Center; M.A., from Ashland Theological Seminary; and B.A., from Livingstone College.

A native of Buffalo, NY, and a graduate of the Syracuse, NY, public school system, Bishop Proctor’s distinguished list of accolades includes induction into Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College, and recipient of an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary and Livingstone College. He was a featured lecturer at the prestigious Hampton University, Hampton Minister’s Conference, and appointed by the University to be the Conference Historian, becoming the first Methodist to serve as an officer in the organization's history. Noted sermons of Bishop Proctor have been published in such publications as "Outstanding Black Sermons Volume 4" (Judson Press), and he served as contributing author in "Doing Church Vol.2" (New Seasons Press).

Bishop Proctor has held three pastorates: St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Massillon, OH; St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church of Wilmington, NC; and the historic Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church in Baltimore, MD. Proctor’s service to the Church continues in four consecutive appointments as a Bishop in the A.M.E. Zion Church overseeing national and global districts.

He is a fifth generation preacher and the son of the late Rev. Emory C. and Rosie T. Proctor. He is married to the former Deborah Diane Wilson, and they are now officially empty nesters!

The Howard Stowe Roberts Cultural Life Center on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College, will host this year's Northeastern Seminary Commencement Ceremony. Parking is available in Lot A located off of Orchard Street.
