The Gathering

Each semester, Northeastern Seminary students, alumni, faculty, and staff are encouraged to gather and connect with God and each other. In the fall of 2023, the community took time to anchor in the "why" of what we do - and explored practical tools for "how" to grow more Christlike both personally and as the community that is the Body of Christ in the world.

Co-Leading the Gathering

Rev. Dr. Rebecca Letterman

Rev. Dr. Rebecca Letterman served at Roberts Wesleyan University for nearly 18 years, both as a Professor of Spiritual Formation at Northeastern Seminary and most recently as the Director of the Intellectual and Spiritual Humility Institute. Rebecca is a certified spiritual director and certified embodiment coach and is an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church of North America (Genesis Conference). She is the founder of Embodiment Consulting Services – a ministry that seeks to support the church in reclaiming the formative potential of the human body for Christian living. Through that ministry, she offers workshops, retreats, online classes, and other resources, and one-on-one coaching for people who long to live more vital and authentic Christian lives by getting “unstuck” from patterns of life they can’t seem to think – or even pray – their way out of.

Marlena received her M.Div. from Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, New York, and is pursuing her Ph.D. in American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH where she is researching the influence of American culture has on Evangelicals’ view of immigration, race, and poverty. Are Evangelical views and behavior really ensconced in biblical teaching or are Evangelicals, white Evangelicals, in particular, more influenced by cultural forces of which they are unaware?
